Helen and Jennifer Thorne became BETTY fans at an early age.  Field work in Abingdon (Oxfordshire, England) was the inspiration for a PhD combining geography and music. This photo taken about 1994.

The local street authority had the perception and quality to spell BETTY in all upper-case letters, a format formality upon which the group themselves will always insist.
