From "Fabulous Food," a book of recipes from famous actors and musicians,
sold to benefit the New York Gay Men's Chorus. Published in 1997. Most
people don't have the slightest inkling about Amy, Elizabeth and
Alyson's wizardry a la kitchenette. How tremendous to finally be able to
stop hiding our light under a bushel! Please sit back, relax and
enjoy the delicious delight that we call.. 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Grate lemon
and combine zest, sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon in small bowl. 3. Realize what a tremendous job you've done so far and toast yourself with a small splash of champagne. Okay... Amy says you don't HAVE to drink wine, but it will definitely make things taste better later. 4. Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter and combine with the bread bits in a medium-sized bowl. Set aside. 5. Grease a 2-quart baking dish. 6. Place 1/3 of the bread in the bottom of the baking dish and cover with 1/2 of the apples and zest-sugar mixture. Repeat for a second layer and end with a layer of the remaining bread bits. Dot the top with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Whew!...aren't you parched? Go ahead, have another glass. 7. Bake covered for 35-40 minutes, then whip off the lid and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes. While you wait, might as well dance around the living room to a great BETTY tune. Don't forget to re-hydrate yourself! 8. By now, the Apple Brown Betty should be golden and bubbly and so should you. Serve with cream or milk if you'd like, OR with Elizabeth's favorite: Strawberry Twizzlers. Serves six. |
