You have four ways to hear or download music or sounds on our site:
| 1 |
You may stream RealAudio, having installed the player. See our RealAudio Help section for background. The free player is available from RealNetworks. Please note that we are phasing out RealAudio in favor of streaming mp3 (below). |
| 2 |
You may stream or download an mp3 file. There are two types of link. With one, you access an m3u file, for replay in QuickTime or iTunes. This method doesn't download the audio mp3 file (with interviews, for example, you don't want your computer littered with speech audio files) but just streams it from our server.
With the straight mp3 links, such as for downloading/streaming our music examples, clicking on the link will usually open the player in a new page in your browser. You can play it from there. To save the complete audio file (if you don't have preferences set to save it) simply save the new small browser window using the file menu. |
| 3 |
You may download an m4a file. These are also known as AAC, mp4 or mpeg-4 files, and sound better than mp3s of the same size. Many browsers get confused or crash when trying to play them directly from download, so we have 'zipped' them. The zipped file will be downloaded to where you have specified in your preferences. You unzip it by using a free utility. If your computer doesn't expand it when you double-click the zip file, get the free application available for PC or Mac: Aladdin Expander, aka StuffitExpander, available for download from Aladdin Systems. For more details on compression and downloading, go to our Downloads help page. |
| 4 |
You may download a bundled collection of tracks, all from the same album. All of our CDs have a collection of long excerpts (often including complete tracks). These are in either mp3 or m4a format, as labeled. They will download on clicking. After that, it depends on your system whether the zipped file is uncompressed automatically. If it doesn't, double-clicking usually does it. Then you play the track(s) of your choice with the player of your choice. |
See our Help section for simple, human explanations of computers, their principles, and action online.
We offer for-sale-downloads of all our tracks on most sites worldwide. See our Paid Downloads page for your local option and a little opinion.
