This update expands the list of file formats it supports, and that's about it. There are more visualization plugins and skins available, which we thought was the coolest aspect of the Sonique Media Player in the first place. A player recommended more for the "experience" than for the utilities it lacks.

The Sonique supports MP3, streaming MP3, WAVE and CD audio. It has a full-featured playlist editor, a 20-band equalizer, pitch and balance controls, and music search. It also boasts of its own AE4 Mpeg Audio Decoder as the ‘best sounding mp3 decoder in the industry’. Frankly, we didn't quite hear that. However, the Sonique is the most fun player we’ve tested. It's windowless interface design and fully animated menus are a refreshing break from the standard MP3 player interface, although we admit we that we got lost a few times due to it’s ‘skinability’ (the way a skin changes the entire interface design). It does take some getting used to, but Sonique presented us with some interesting interface variations. Some full screen visualizations (animated graphic designs synchronized to the music) come with the player, but over 500 fun skins and DSP effects (plugins) are available for free at its website.
