Newsletter October 2003

Every time we add something new, you'll see a linked guide to it here, with our archive of past Newsletters.

If you join the Stereo Society, you will receive a monthly newsletter with direct links to everything new and announcements about fresh downloads and more.
Please forward a copy to a friend.

Thanks to our traveling and recording activities, we have to put off the full site update for a couple weeks after the first of October. Here are a few mechanical notes to keep us all going. Fortunately, projects are presently being finished with big ticks in the ‘done’ box.

We have had trouble with the site E mail. For about six weeks, the forwarding from the site had, we found, been unreliable and erratic. The mail is now completely rewritten from scratch, works smoothly and should be bulletproof. If you sent us anything in the last six weeks or so, apologies for any radio silence and thanks for your patience: please resend.

The November update will be a correspondingly big one, expanding considerably on the Carmel section (maybe forgotten but still a classic music-making case) and adding a note on the production of a single by Siouxsie and the Banshees.(a bitchy disaster zone). We’ll guide you through in the next newsletter, November 1, but in the interim you will see these additions gradually accumulate on site as we polish them up.

Our ISP site host apparently had a minor and harmless hack attack over a month ago. If you see an error message saying
‘ You do not have the plug-in needed to view the “application/hta” type information on this page………’
you’re seeing the results. To get rid of it, just empty the browser cache. (For example, in Internet Explorer go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and click the Empty Now button in the Cache section.) This isn’t a malicious virus, and there is no danger to your computer. It was just a fumbling attempt to create a pop-up window linking to a dodgy site (kind of dull, also), a common ploy. You may also come across it with other providers.

We always welcome the criticisms, constructive and abusive, but would also like to hear suggestions for extensions to the site. Anything you’d like to hear about? Mail us. Please.
